I finally made it back to SoCal, after more than 3 months in Virginia. Of course, surfing San
Onofre is one of those classic SoCal traditions that's worth continuing. Marc, Jay and I
got some boards and headed out early saturday morning. As we climbed down the cliffs to the
beach, we passed some guys with short boards heading home. They said it was pretty good but
mushy. Sounded perfect for us with our long boards. And sure enough it was a great day.

The morning was especially good. Of course the problem with good waves is that we all want to go
out and ride them, so we don't get any good pictures of the best waves. Jay got this clip of me
dropping into my last wave of the morning.

Here's me on the same wave, 9.8 seconds later according to my digital camera.

Here's Jay almost getting one. Jay was dropping into some big ones early on. We all got tired
as the day progressed, though.

Marc heads out to catch some big waves. Here he almost catches one.

This time, success.

I had a nice but short encounter with this wave.

This wave gave me a longer ride.

You have to give Jay an A for effort. The currents got pretty strong in the afternoon but he was
out fighting it for a long time. He eventually drifted down toward Camp Pendleton.
