phimail Written by Paul LeMahieu (lemahieu@paradise.caltech.edu) You need tcl/tk (4.0 or greater) and perl installed on your system for phimail to work. You'll need to edit the first line of phimail to correspond to the location of 'wish' on your system. You'll need to edit the 4th line of phimail to correspond to the location of 'perl' on your system. phimail - Tcl/tk script for showing mailbox status. phimail.1 - nroff man page for phimail mhdrs - Perl script for extracting mail headers from a Unix-style mailfile. This is _not_ needed by phimail, I just include it because it might be useful to someone writing their own mail alert tool. phimail uses something like this internally by calling 'perl -e ...', but it is so unreadable I include mhdrs as well. I suggest installing in the following locations: /usr/local/bin/phimail /usr/local/man/man1/phimail.1 or, if you're not root, ~/bin/phimail ~/man/man1/phimail.1 For general usage information, try 'phimail -blah'. The man pages explain the options in detail. One suggestion: Since scripts following the #! convention require an absolute path, it's probably best to have links to common scripting interpreters in both /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin. This prevents the annoying problem of having to edit the first line of scripts to get them to work, since most scripts will expect the interpreter to be in one of those locations. --Paul
